In brief

Work with our team to spearhead Ameelio’s government sales strategy by sourcing opportunities, iterating and experimenting with different approaches to correctional agencies, and managing relationships with government partners. Responsible for building, leading and developing both inbound and outbound sales development organization to formalize Ameelio’s customer acquisition strategy and continue to scale our evolution and the nation’s first free prison communications and learning platform. This role will affect change in corrections at every level of government, local, state, and federal.

Ideal Candidate

  • B2G Tech Sales professional with experience in competitive bidding, lead prospecting, and customer acquisition.
  • You’re familiar with RFP/RFI processes as a B2G public-sector vendor or have some comparable experience within government procurement.
  • You’re energized by building processes from the ground up and furthering business development.
  • You will bring a deep understanding of procurement, sales processes, and contracting culture to help formalize Ameelio’s overall sales strategy.
  • You have a strong desire to leverage your knowledge to improve the lives of incarcerated people and their families.
  • You’re comfortable being the face of Ameelio by managing external relationships professionally, and interfacing with our product and sales teams internally to support said relationships.

What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in a related role/environment.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Build a team that grows into highly impactful Program Directors (Sales Executives) and leaders to define a clear path to the acquisition, client satisfaction, and maintain positive working relationships with DOCs and facilities.
    • Own Ameelio’s internal contract documentation, developing and executing product sales strategies, and competitive research.
    • Leverage warm introductions and coordinate meetings with officials at various levels of corrections agencies.
    • Proactively source opportunities and partnerships in line with internal KPIs
    • Review and approve contract terms, monitor upcoming bids and deadlines, and close contracts efficiently
    • Manage the drafting of LOIs and proposals in response to RFPs.
    • Help foster a healthy organizational culture and strong learning environment.
    • Work closely and collaborate with sales leadership, product teams, revenue operations, enablement, human resources and recruiting as key partners in hitting team goals.

Problem We're Solving

The $1.4 billion prison communications industry generates obscene profits by charging extortionate prices to the incarcerated and their loved ones. Families spend up to $500 a month to stay connected to their loved ones inside. A 15-minute phone call runs as steep as $25. Our work has never been more important. Because of COVID, prisons have shut down all in-person visitation. Low-income families have few options to communicate with loved ones.

Exclusive contracts leave prison telecommunications companies unchecked by competition: former FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn called the industry “the clearest, most glaring type of market failure I’ve ever seen as a regulator”.

Poverty and incarceration are viciously tied: over 50% of incarcerated people had no income eight years preceding their arrest. For-profit prison companies entrench this cycle. One in three families with incarcerated loved ones is forced into debt ( $13,000, on average) by the cost of maintaining contact.

This is a social and moral disaster.
